JUNIOR WORK-12

This service for five to twelve year olds have always been an important part of our project.

By providing free attractive opportunities where all young people can take part in activities that inform them, challenge them and make them work together , we reduced inequality. We help children and families new to the area integrate quickly with new friends.

By providing free children’s activities, residential experiences we give entertainment and joy for young people but also take pressure off of parents as they don’t have to find money to keep children busy. We give children something to look forward to every week.

We involve parents and build relations that help us offer more support to parents in most need when required.

Every Week we offer a junior Club for p1-3 for and a junior club for p4-7 each for two hours.

We also offer a sports club for these age groups on a Thursday for an hour.

We have also offered music lessons for the older kids p5-7 but are currently looking at funding to keep this going.

We have built a strong relation with Aberdeen Science Centre so our kids get the chance to see how science can be fun. Regular visits by the science team have shown they can learn about really interesting stuff that that is exciting to them ie Space , the Human Body, Robots etc.

During summer our Play Schemes for this age group is fantastic.

Last year the project organised 14 day trips or activities in the Centre or the park with some attracting as much as 38 children.

In total there were a total of 304 attendances .

Four hundred and thirty Healthy meals( including residential meals) were made ( some by the kids) and distributed to all the kids taking part.

Two camps were organized the first was three nights four days and attracted 14 children. They went to Cromdale near Aviemore and had great adventures at Loch Morlich and Landmark. The second 5 days long and attracted 12 children. They went all the way to the West Coast to the Hop Scotch Holiday. There the children experienced living the Island life and took part in amazing activities such as a speed boat rides.

So 26 children aged 7-12 enjoyed a residential holiday with the project some of them it will have been their only holiday experience .

All activities were absolutely free.

8 volunteers helped during the 7 week programme (200 hours for day trips 170 for camps )370 hours volunteer hours in total. We believe the children in our community are provided with a wonderful have service which offers these experiences which they will remember for a very long time.
